Continuum Ground:Market Factory

The subtle continuum between the activities of Neighborhood, Water, Production and Leisure made up the natural and authentic charm of the traditional fishing village. In a modern fishing port facing restructuring in its industry, besides taking over the Ground by building more museums to attract tourists, are there other ways to showcase the production mechanisms of the small-scale fishery and stitch the broken production landscapes back together? Bring back the Factories: Looking at the small-scale processing factories tucked in the neighborhoods, we find traces of the life and essence of the traditional fishing village. The goal is to continue this “Neighborhood, Factory, Water” context, preserving the rare small-scale fishery, at the same time revitalize the fishing port. Insert the Market: Placing activities of a Market upon a plot of parking space located in the heart of the old community, fusing with the spatial traits of a Factory, we hope to implement a sense of locality, community and theatricality, attracting tourists to enjoy real experiences and young locals to make a living here, as a basis for the industry and culture to sustain and prosper. The Factories make the Market: Besides production, processing and commercial activities, interesting spatial experiences also take place: mechanical roofs moving along with the course of the processing, tourists eating while watching fishing boats passing by, grownups taking their children for walks on the viewing decks while observing the processing, also learning how to cook in D.I.Y. classrooms, in the busy market pulleys are used for circulating the goods, at midnight couples drink at the bar on the viewing deck, watching the lights of the night-fishing boats. A semi-outdoor theater space adjacent to the existing community center also acts as a buffer between the Neighborhood and the Market. Through the superimposition of activities and the continuum of landscapes, the rigid boundaries of the modern fishing port begin to blur, alas the broken lines start to meet again.
