本書包含排版內盒與圖解紀錄，設計師透過插畫圖解活字排版的工法、用簡單的文字說明基本觀念，並設計可拆裝操作的排版內盒，讓過去師徒間多以口頭傳授的活字排版功夫，得以傳承延續。排版內盒包含一組以紙替代傳統活字排版工具的紙鉛角，以及一組腳架，經過組裝後可模擬傳統排版桌的傾斜角度，方便讀者一邊閱讀說明一邊操作，將書中提供的傳統活字排版觀念體現在實作裡。書中以插畫的方式圖解活字排版，內容包含師傅使用的工具和工法、傳統名片的排版步驟以及師傅在工作上常用的語彙等等，另外也設計「鉛角比對圖」，給有興趣學習活字排版的讀者可在實際接觸鉛角時比照尺寸，對活字排版的入門更得心應手。本書封套結合活字印刷及平版印刷製作。

 

It is a design for learning and experiencing traditional typesetting. Readers can make their own prints with the inner portable typesetting box by following the detailed illustrations. The book “translates” the typesetting master’s experience and know-hows to a sexy yet user-friendly design, providing a bridge for modern audience to get the feel on traditional movable type printing, and gain personal experience from it. The book contains a portable typesetting box, a building kits and an illustrated record of the typesetting process, tools, skills and jargons. Reading through the step-by-step instructions in the handbook, readers can understand the core concepts that were once delivered only from ear to ear, mouth to mouth by old masters to their apprentices. With the building kits, the book can be manually setup into a functional mini typesetting table. For preserving and re-introducing the spirit and workflow of movable type, the DIY typesetting box presents a paper-made spacer system that allows readers to rethink and observe how a simple composition is made up, with detailed reference to the traditional lead spacer system.
