"Lighting for the Luce Chapel honors its modernist spirit while updating it with precise, contemporary tools.
Rooted in restraint, the design lets light breathe with the chapel’s curved concrete, allowing architecture and illumination to speak as one from day to night.
Inside, indirect light rides the parabolic shells; walls become reflectors that soften contrast and shape a contemplative atmosphere.
Asymmetric optics, deep shielding, and on-site tuning eliminate glare and preserve visual comfort.
Light is responsive—adapting to worship, meditation, or exhibition—always present, never intrusive.
Outside, discreet wall-wash and accent beams reveal the diamond-patterned tiles and the structure’s quiet ascent from the lawn.
Tight beams and louvers minimize spill, preserving darkness and local ecology.
The cross is illuminated from below by a precise linear projector—quietly present against the sky, never overpowering.
Through quiet technology, the design reduces energy load while heightening emotional clarity.
The result is a spiritual beacon—architecture re-read by light—emotionally resonant, environmentally respectful, and faithful to the chapel’s cultural significance."

路思義教堂於1963年落成，由臺灣建築師陳其寬與華裔建築師貝聿銘共同設計，為東海校園的精神象徵與現代建築的經典之作。
教堂坐落於校園中央，既不屬教學區，亦異於隱沒林間的其他建築，獨享一方天空，以彰顯其超然與崇高。建校初期，校內樹木尚未繁茂，舉目皆可望見屋頂的十字架——如同一座精神燈塔，守護校園。當人們需要仰望，救恩的象徵便映入眼簾。
建築本體由四片三度曲面板構成，形似倒置船腹，上寬下收，予人沉穩厚實之感。屋脊設有玻璃天窗，營造「一線天」的意象；側窗溢入斜光，為室內增添神秘韻味。從正立面或四十五度角內視，其流暢曲線之美尤其動人。
此次修復計畫，回溯建築師原初構想，於尊重空間精神前提下，引入現代化燈具與整合性光環境設計。透過精準運用人工光，營造如天光般的柔和與優雅，細膩襯托曲面稜線；夜幕降臨，暖調微光勾勒結構輪廓，使路思義教堂在白晝與星空下皆綻放雋永光彩，重現其神聖與詩意。
