【 Description｜作品介紹 】
The site faces the iconic Jioujiou Peaks to the north—dramatic mountain ridges that mark the entrance to Caotun. Openings in the building façades allow dialogue with the surrounding mountains. The transparent sections bring the natural cliffs into the design, merging with the architectural texture. Sloped roofs enhance ventilation via the stack effect, allowing natural air circulation to remove moisture and odors. Corridors with louvered rain shelters connect the buildings, enabling travelers to move between structures—echoing the historical imagery of people journeying through Caotun from east to west. Sunlight filters through wood-textured lattices, casting dynamic patterns on the floor and walls. As time passes, these dappled shadows mimic the forest canopy, letting visitors experience the passage of time and light.
The mountain-like architecture integrates with the surrounding landscape, serving as a self-introduction to travelers and warmly welcoming them to the mountain town of Nantou. It brings the mountain views and breezes indoors, inviting people to perceive and experience the local environment with their whole being.
草屯自古為南投到外地的必經之地，為重要的交通樞紐。因應國道6號沿線觀光發展之需求，新建東草屯休息站，提升國道服務品質。
因基地東西向狹長，故將大型車及小型車停車場於東西兩側配置，各設置兩側廁所，就近服務大、小型車旅客。將商店居中配置，旅客下車進入園區即可清楚辨識廁所及商店之方位，目標明確且使用便捷。
將壯麗山峰以框景引入建築，成為一幅幅美麗的畫作，使人們進到空間便能欣賞在地地景，感知環境並達到放鬆的如廁體驗。廁間分區配置、動線明確，並設置兒童衛生器具、哺集乳室、無障礙、親子、性別友善及穆斯林廁所，滿足友善與多元性。
建築立面開口與群山對話，透空處使自然山壁納入為立面質感的展現。斜屋頂創造浮力通風，讓空氣自然對流，帶走水氣與穢氣。棟與棟之間以格柵雨遮通廊串聯，旅客穿梭其間，再現人們來往東西，行經草屯的歷史意象。陽光透過木紋格柵灑落地面及牆面，隨著時間推移，猶如山林中樹下的光影，讓旅客感受時光，與光影互動。
山型建築與地景融合，向旅客自我介紹，歡迎人們來到山城南投，引進室內的山景、風的流動，讓人們自然以身體感知、體驗在地環境。
