【Description|
Effective wayfinding designs balance functionality, visibility, and architectural integration. Nimeto, a vocational college for future creative makers, asked for a cutting-edge wayfinding system that exceeds basic navigation needs, aiming to inspire and engage students, especially those aspiring to be wayfinding creators. The system is largely made using 3D printing with recycled plastics. The materials and colours align with the toned-down aesthetics of the building’s architecture. Illuminated pictograms in key locations evoke positivity, showing how simple shapes can convey messages beyond the obvious. Supersized sculptural floor numbers encourage thinking big. Product specifications are based on the capabilities of the college's 3D printers, allowing for the modular system's expansion and maintenance in-house. This enables students to gain hands-on experience in wayfinding design, production, and installation. The system also teaches practical lessons in layout, typography, and the narrative power of wayfinding. The result serves as both an educational tool and a functional navigation system, while greatly enhancing the school’s spatial identity.
