【Description|作品介紹】

Abalone aquaculture in Taiwan finds its roots in breeding ponds formally found across northeastern Taiwan. We are in the process of transforming some of the now abandoned abalone breeding ponds into coral nurseries. Our first step was to visit the agencies tasked with coral restoration to understand the environmental challenges facing coral reefs and the possible methods to address these challenges, before creating a solution that involved recycling the trash and debris at the heart of the problem. Discarded rocks, bricks, tiles, and concrete that would otherwise harm coral reefs were collected and kiln-fired to create a triangular coral seeding base. Concepts and ideas related to this coral restoration project, as well as local environmental issues were explored further in an accompanying publication. The nine florescent colors found naturally in coral, UV printing, along with paper cutting designs and other illustrations were used to effectively transmit important coral restoration knowledge from various angles to assist readers in better understanding a species that needs our care and attention.
