【Description｜作品介紹】

The Municipal Art Society is a nonprofit, membership-based organization in New York City that encourages thoughtful planning and urban design across the city to preserve history, culture, and neighborhoods. Through various strategies, all the different programs were able to be arranged from the most public café at the half underground to the most private office on the fourth floor, creating several public spaces that seamlessly connect to the site and are fully open to the citizens of New York City. From outdoor to indoor, from underground to rooftop, the MAS Headquarters is full of various public activities. Especially the public forum on the 2nd floor, which draws people from all directions to participate in social events. When citizens come to this site, they can spend a whole day exercising their physical and mental strength, and fully enjoy the benefits that the city offers. This is not only good urban planning and architectural design, but also the fundamental aim of the Municipal Art Society.

紐約市藝術保護協會 (MAS)是一個非營利會員制保護組織，旨在鼓勵全市進行深思熟慮的規劃和城市設計從而保護紐約市的歷史、文化和社區。這個計畫是打算重新設計與建造MAS的紐約市總部。辦公室是這個計畫的主要功能之一，但為了建立MAS為紐約文化和歷史著想，心系紐約市民生活的形象，這棟建築需滿足多種需求。因此，協會主席提出此項目應包含辦公、教室、圖書館、咖啡廳和展廊，以及公共論壇，這也將是此計畫最重要的功能，因為它將為各種演講、講座、座談會提供場所。

這個公共論壇的空間設計，也會間接決定紐約市民如何看待MAS在市政功能中的形象。 場地歷經二戰經濟大蕭條、後工業時代蓬勃發展、嬉皮文化和經濟衰落、以及城市更新和藝術社區的新建，可以說大起大落一百多年，形成了自己獨有的飽含舊的工業時代建築與新的充滿城市生活氣息和藝術氣息的綜合城市風貌。計畫要透過各種策略，讓建築的公共空間從對面的公園開始層層遞進，並與週邊的工業與藝術氣息融為一體，盡可能多地滿足市民和辦公人員的需要，打造一個城市客。
