About Taipei Design Award

 

Q1: Is there a designated theme for the Taipei Design Award?

Taipei Design Award is divided into two categories: International Competition and Taipei Impact Design Award.
* The international competition consists of three categories: industrial design, visual communication design and public space design, with no specific theme.
* The Taipei Impact Design Award is not categorized, and its theme is " Sustainable and Integration": From the perspective of Taipei city, we encourage design to incorporate innovative concepts such as sustainable development, resilient city, net zero carbon emission, humanistic care, sharing and integration, and embody design energy in housing, transportation, education, economy, culture, environment and other aspects, bringing endless creativity and vitality to the city through design


Q2: How much is the prize money for the Taipei Design Award?

The total prize money is up to NT $4.4 million (approximately equal to US $136,180, subject to current exchange rates).
* The highest honor, the "Grand Prize", is awarded at NT $600,000 .
* The Golden, Silver, and Bronze prizes in the International Competition category are NT $500,000, NT $200,000, and NT$ 150,000 respectively. Other special awards include the Social Innovation Award (NT $130,000), the Circular Design Award (NT $130,000), as well as the Design Association Special Award and the Jury Recommendation Award.
* The Gold Award of the Taipei Impact Design Award is NT$ 250,000 dollars. Other awards include the Design Association Special Award and the Jury Recommendation Award.


Q3: What are the qualifications for the Taipei Design Award?

* International Competition
1、Everyone around the world are welcomed to participate individually or as a group with one member as main correspondent.
2、Entries must be original creations of the contestants completed after January 1, 2022.
* Taipei Impact Design Award
1、Everyone around the world are welcomed to participate individually or as a group with one member as main correspondent.
2、Entries must be original creations of the contestants completed after January 1, 2022.
3、Entries must be in line with the theme of the competition, and have been completed and implemented in Taipei City


Q4: Do I need to pay a fee to enter the Taipei Design Award?

No. There is no entry fee and no review fee, but the logistics, insurance, and customs clearance costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Q5: We have already applied for a password in the login system last year, can we still login and use it?

Yes, you can.


Q6: What is the application process for the Taipei Design Award? How can I confirm that I have completed the application?

Please register for a new account or log in.(https://www.taipeidaward.taipei)
1.Fill in all the basic personal information.
2. Click Upload, fill in the details of your work, and complete the work archive.
3. Go back to the Uploaded Works page to view the list of uploaded works.


Q7: Can I show my company's logo in my entry?

Yes, as long as it does not affect the judging.


Q8: Is there a capacity limit for uploading photos of the entries in the login system?

The photo format is limited to jpg, resolution 96-150 dpi, file size should not exceed 3MB, and size 1190x840 pixels. There is a limit of 5 photos.

If you are unable to upload your entry, please write to the Taipei Design Award team at taipeidesignaward@gmail.com to provide your registration number and password, the image of your entry and the title of your entry.
We will assist you in uploading your work and will notify you to modify the description of your work by logging into the application system after successful upload.


Q9: Can the entry be a self-created work? Or do you have to be a commercial client?

You do not have to have a commercial application, as long as your work is original and created after April 15, 2020, you are eligible to participate in the contest.


Q10: In the login system, there are Chinese and English fields for the introduction of the work, can I fill in Chinese only?

The Taipei Design Award will invite international design experts as judges, so English descriptions of the entries are required and please pay attention to the accuracy of the translation to facilitate the judging process.


Q11: How do I choose the category of my entry when filling out the entry information?

Entrants can choose the category based on the attributes of their work. If the work has multiple attributes, it is recommended to choose the category based on the core value of the work.


Q12: Can only completed or finished projects be entered? Can unfinished entries be entered?

Yes. If the work is not yet completed, it can be entered as a concept, but please ensure that you can submit the information and drawings required by the competition. For more information, please refer to the "Contest Regulations".


Q13: Can I enter in my company name? Or can I only enter as an individual or team?

If you only want to enter as a company, you can choose "Group" when you upload your entry and fill in at least one designer and your company name in the information field; or you can choose "Individual" when you enter as a company and fill in your company name in the name field.


Q14: How do I apply for the same company (team) with different works and different designers?

If you have different team members, please select "Team" when you upload your work and enter different team members' information in the information field to distinguish them.
In addition, you can fill in the name of the company (team) at the bottom of the group list, and if it is the same company, you can fill in the same company name.


Q15: The work submitted was done while I was a student, but now that I have graduated, should I choose student or professional status for registration?

Please choose the current status.


Q16: I work for a company (team), should I register as an individual or as a member of the company (team)?

It depends on whether the copyright of the work belongs to the individual or to the company (team). If it is owned by a company (team), then the company (team) name must be used for submission.


Q17: Can I enter one or more entries per unit? Can I change my entry after uploading it?

There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted, and you are welcome to submit all outstanding entries. You can make corrections, revisions, additions, or deletions after you upload your entry until the deadline for submission.


Q18: If I have more than one entry to submit, do I need to use different emails and IDs to register?

If you want to submit more than one entry, please submit them separately. You can click the upload button above and the site will take you to a new upload page where you can upload different entries in the same account. Once you have submitted your work, you can view or edit it on the application information page.


Q19: If my work is entered in the Taipei Design Award, can I still participate in other design competitions?

Yes, you can. The Taipei Design Award does not limit the competitions in which an entrant's work has been or will be entered.
Q20: Can I submit winning entries from other design competitions?

Yes, you can. You can submit your work as long as it was first published after Jan. 1, 2022. There are no exclusions to the Taipei Design Award, and works that have already received recognition from other design awards are welcome to enter.


Q21: How do I upload a series of works?

A series of works can be considered as a single work or multiple works, provided that the relevant submission requirements are met.
If you want to emphasize the continuity of your work as a whole, you can submit one entry as a series; however, if you want to emphasize the uniqueness of each work in the series, you can also submit separate entries.

 

Judging and Related Matters

 

Q22: Do I need to submit a physical copy of my work to the judging panel?

Entries do not need to be submitted during the preliminary screening. If you are notified that you are a finalist, you will be required to submit a physical copy of your work for judging.


Q23: Can I retrieve my submitted works?

The Taipei Design Award team will announce the time and place to pick up the works after the physical exhibition. 
For all Grand Prize winners, as well as Golden, Silver, and Bronze awards in the three categories of the International Competition, and for the Gold Award of the Taipei Impact Design Award, the ownership of the model (or the actual product) will be transferred to the Taipei City Government upon receipt of the award.
